Vortex suppression of the tip leakage flow over a NACA0009 hydrofoil via a passive jet induced by the double-control-hole

Tip leakage vortex (TLV) frequently occurring in bladed energy conversion machines may induce flow loss as well cavitation. The double-curved-hole (DC hole) structures located at the 10%–25% chord near leading edge of foil are adopted to a passive jet thus suppressing tip this paper. control effects and mechanisms three DC hole positions illustrated by numerical analyses based on rotation-curvature corrected shear stress transport (SST) k-? turbulence model Zwart-Gerber-Belamri (ZGB) cavitation model. results demonstrate that from could divide TLV into several parts new vortical structures. newborn can be classified types: weakened (WTLV), secondary (NSTLV) separation (HSV). for different clearance greatly related location. Once locates merger point vortex, it achieve best effects. Besides, core pressure improved local cavitation, lift-drag ratio inlet velocities slightly reduced.

The interaction of gas bubbles with a vortex is investigated experimentally to clarify the role of the initial bubble position on its trajectory around the tip vortex shed from a large hydrofoil. The experiments performed with 4-6mm bubbles show that the bubbles can undergo no capture, quick capture into the tip vortex or slow capture with a spiral trajectory around the vortex.
